Somewhere in the North Indian Ocean we've spotted tropical Drupal heaven, shaped from pure white sand and caressed by the blue waves. At 30,000ft with phones in Airplane Mode it was pretty hard to get an exact fix unfortunately.

Anyone have more precise directions or know what it's like on the ground?

Drupal’s core search technology is a good fit for small to medium sites, or where the search requirements aren’t particularly sophisticated. The benefits of core search are zero setup and no additional server requirements; the node content is indexed in the database.

However, for busy sites, sites with a lot of content, or if features such as faceting are required, then Drupal can be combined with Apache Solr, a specialised search platform.

With your customers and prospects that is. Tim Deeson looks at how social media can build on links with existing customers and how it can establish a rapport with people who don't yet know you or your organisation. The key is linking your media together to form a strong online relationship, wherever they are on the internet.

Deeson's mobile site

Got a mobile strategy? We have been busy developing our own mobile communications – see our new dedicated mobile site at http://m.deeson.co.uk where we look at the benefits and relevancy of mobile marketing to different types of organisation.

The term 'mobile' is actually a bit too broad to be useful and leads to a lot of confusion. It can simply mean access from a mobile phone to a standard website, dedicated mobile applications (for example iPhone apps), SMS communications with customers or customers buying from mobile-specific websites.

Drupal is an open source content management system (CMS) which can be extended to provide e-commerce facilities with a module called UberCart. There are a couple of areas in which it is particularly powerful:

Selling access to content or digital products
In this situation all the benefits of Drupal's content management, search, rating and user experience features are available and transactions can be seamlessly processed with a basket.

An interesting week. Several new sites have been launched, some we can talk about and will write up later, but some we can't, including an Australian pop star's...

Deeson.co.uk has just been featured on Acquia's "Beautiful Drupal" design showcase, which is a compliment. I think Acquia are demonstrating the point with design.acquia.com that just because Drupal can be ugly in the wrong hands, it doesn't have to be.

Bygone Kent Magazine

Bygone Kent is the only local history magazine for the county.  Produced by Deeson Create, Publish and Words, we have just got in on the game and put together a brand new website for it!  Features include back-issue ordering, subscriptions, local news and online articles.  In fact, we used quite an interesting jQuery plugin called Columnizer for the articles pages.

2010 Revolution Awards

By Tim Deeson | 9th April 2010

Fresh (!) back from the Revolution Awards last night courtesy of DediPower who were sponsors.

Surprise meeting of the evening was Jon Morter of Rage Against the Machine Christmas No.1 fame, he was nominated for an award but didn't win unfortunately.

The evening was hosted by Jason Manford who did a good job of keeping things going through quite an 'extensive' list of nominees and awards!

As part of our group re-brand the eMedia division has a new logo and is now Deeson Online! Nothing else has changed – same nice people and same great service!
