Do-Surgery gets some love

It's always nice when our work is positively recognised by other agencies. And that's exactly what one Paul Boag from Headscape did in his latest podcast (cue warm and fuzzy feeling).
As part of their discussion, Paul and Headscape co-founder, Marcus Lillington, explored Do-Surgery – a groundbreaking responsive e-learning portal for consultant surgeons and registrars built by Deeson Online. The site offers this group of clinicians access to hundreds of instructional videos, scientific presentations and webcasts.
The big difference is that this content is created and shared by surgeons – something that wasn't lost on Paul and Marcus.
Do-Surgery under the microsocope
In critiquing Do-Surgery, the podcasters covered a range of aspects they liked, including:
- It works well and is responsive
- Sign-up and logging in is straightforward – crucial for busy surgeons
- The site has high-quality content which you can preview before full sign-up
- Over 90% of the content is freely contributed by time-poor consultant surgeons
- It has a nice cookie design – important to get right especially on touch devices
- Strong navigation – simple and uncomplicated
- Nice looking features
- Surgeons have got behind the project – an impressive feat in itself
Paul also touched on the possibility of lessons being learned for other sites on how to engage hard-to-reach contributors and audiences. For example, academics or lawyers. It's an interesting point, and one that will no doubt be explored further...
Listen to the very entertaining podcast or read the transcript yourself.
